Visakhapatnam (or Vizag) is a port city in Andhra Pradesh and is often known as "The Jewel of the East Coast". It is located on the southeast coast of Bay of Bengal and is surrounded by the Eastern Ghats on the north and the west. Historically, the city was named after Vishaka, the God of Valor. under the rule of King Ashoka, the city was a part pf the Kalinga Kingdom. Later, it came under the rule of the Andhra Kings of Vengi. Then it was ruled by the Pallava, the Chola and the Ganga dynasties. It was in the 15th century that the city became a part of the Vijayanagara Empire.the city has developed into an economic hub. Once a small fishing village, it has now turned into one of the most promising industrial hubs in south India. It comprises all the important sectors of the economy such as pharma, IT, fishing, import and export. As fishing is the main occupation of the people, the presence of an international port has resulted in an increase in trade and commerce in the city.

Visakhapatnam was the second largest city in Andhra Pradesh and a major sea port of India. The place is the major port of the Indian National Army and is the deepest ports of India. There are various valleys like the Araku Valley, which is a picturesque location for picnics and is a hill station that has some really great trekking hotspots. The various beaches like Yarada and Rishikonda are situated in some of most picturesque locations and are relatively clean and are frequented by many tourists.
