Secunderabad in Telangana is located at a distance of 8 km on the northeast of the state's capital, Hyderabad. Secunderabad is popularly known the twin city of Hyderabad and in fact the name Secunderabad is sparely used outside both the cities. It comes under the municipality of Hyderabad and together with the city, it forms one of the largest metropolitan cities of the country. Although considered similar, both the cities have different histories. Secunderabad was built under the British rule and Hyderabad has been a princely state since its formation. Built in the 18th century under the reign of Sikandar Jah, the third Nizam of the Asaf Jahi dynasty, Secunderabad was named after him. Secunderabad has also remained under the control of the Kakatiya dynasty; however, the modern Secunderabad was founded during the British period.

Secunderabad city differs in major ways from the city of Hyderabad. The town developed under the direct rule of the British as opposed to the Nizam ruled princely state of Hyderabad. Secunderabad is also one of the largest cantonment areas of India. The town is distinct from the other places in Andhra Pradesh due to the majority of its population being Anglo-Indian and Parsis. The town’s various forts and the famous hussain sagar lake are a must visit.
