Hammeer Garhi Heritage Resort, Khajuraho

Hammeer Garhi Heritage Resort is located in central India in the northern part of the state of Madhya Pradesh. It is about 25 kms. towards west of Khajuraho on National Highway No. 56 linking Jhansi (and Agra) to Rewa (Allahabad & Varanasi). Its distance from Khajuraho International Airport is 20 Kms (20 minutes) and from Khajuraho Railway Station it is 18 Kms (18 minutes) only. As its name suggests, Hammeer Garhi Heritage Resort is a heritage property which has been converted to a village resort. It is built in eco-rural backdrop of a beautiful and culturally vibrant village – Basari. The property bears its title in the name of “Hammeer Dev” - one of the commanders in the royal army of great medieval King “Chhatrasaal” who carved out an independent kingdom of Bundelkhand defying the authority of mighty and much dreaded Mughal emperor of India – Aurangzeb. Under royal patronage of King Chhatrasaal, Hammeer Dev founded this garhi (residential mini-fortress) some 350 years back and started a settlement around it, later to be called ‘Basari’, i.e., the place where people settled. The place by virtue of its easy accessibility, wilderness, old world charm, picture post card set up, three lakes, surrounding barren lands, forests and hillocks, etc, is unique in itself and gives the feel of India in its truest essence.
