Dongyang is a Chinese city in the center of Zhejiang Province, about 200 kilometers south of Hangzhou. Dongyang county was first set up in AD 195 (2nd year of XinPing Reign of East Han Dynasty) and known as Wuning. In AD 688, the name was changed to Dongyang. The name Dongyang means "Eastern Sun". In recent years Dongyang has set up sister city relations with Kokomo, Indiana, US. Dongyang, a city in the middle of Zhejiang Province near Shanghai, is famous for its woodcarving. It is one of the major centers of woodcarving production from the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties to the present day. Woodcarving in Dongyang has a long history and was named after its place of origin, Dongyang.
