Artux is a county-level city in Xinjiang. Artux is the seat of Kizilsu Kirghiz Autonomous Prefecture. It is situated in the northwest part of the Tarim Basin, south of the Tien Shan mountains. Mt. Mustagh Ata (Father of Glacier) is the second highest peak in the Kunlun Shan. The highest is Kongur, Muztagh Ata’s immediate neighbor to the northeast. Mt. Mustagh Ata is only 15 miles from the China-Tajikistan border. Located in Nanmushahe Village of Artux, the ancient city of Shule covers an area of 10 square kilometers, there are the smoke towers of the Han Dynasty, castles of the Tang Dynasty, dilapidated walls, temples, and pagodas of the Yuan Dynasty.
