Malda

Malda is a city in the state of west Bengal of India. It has a special significance in the Indian history. The existence of this city has been from the time of the great Mauryan Empire. Since then, it has always been a prominent place known for the base of the political power. Malda was formerly known as the English Bazaar. The name was given by the name of a factory established over here by the East India Company of England, in 1771. Malda is situated at the confluence of the Mahananda and Kalindri rivers and was known for the major river port of the Hindu capital of Pandua. Today it acts as the base for visiting Gaur and Pandua.
