In 1929, Mahatma Gandhi stayed here for 14 days at the Anasakti Ashram while scripting his book titled 'Anasakti Yoga' and was greatly impressed by its environs.The town is accessible all year round. For those who wish to avoid the cold, the best season is between April to June and again between September to November. Summer months will require light woollen clothing and winter- heavy woollen clothes.

Standing 1890 m above the sea level, Kausani is nature’s own reverse, nestling among thick, dense pine forests atop a narrow ridge and separated from the towering mountains of the Nanda Devi range by low, medium mountains at Kausani. Kausani is famous for its breathtaking and astounding view, over 300 km in length, of the Himalayas. From here one can see the settlements of the Katyuri valley, the river Gomti and the snow-clad peaks of Panchachuli, Nanda Kot, Nanda Devi, Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, Chaukhamba.

The nearest airport to Kasuni is located in Pantnagar. This airport is almost 177 km away from the heart of the city.

By Rail

Kathgodam is the nearest railway station from Kausani, which is about 134 km from the hill resort. After getting down at the station, you have the option of hiring a taxi or boarding a bus, to reach Kausani.

Kausani is often equated with Darjeeling because of the high quality tea produced here. Buying some packets of tea produced here is a must for every tourist. The tea gardens here are mostly those of Girias Uttarakhandl Tea. Also, you can buy some 'Himalayan Fresh' organic products such as pickles, herbs, jams and honey, local grains like cholai and red rice, rhododendron and other squashes.
