Rae Bareli is a city as well as a municipal district in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It is also the administrative headquarters of Rae Bareli District. The city is situated on the banks of the Sai River and lies at a distance of 82 kilometres from the state capital, Lucknow. The Rae Bareli District was created by the British in 1858, however, according to history the town was found by the Bhars, due to which, the town got its name ‘Bareli’. The first part of its name is said to be derived from a nearby village called ‘Rahi.’ The city is also popular for information technology and it has the first public sector undertaking in the form of ITI Ltd. It is also one of the six manufacturing plants of the telecom giant. Rae Bareli recently retained its top position in India’s telecommunication business for the fourth year, consecutively.
