Suryapet

Suryapet is a city and the district headquarters of Suryapet district in the Indian state of Telangana. It is located 47 KM towards East from District head quarters Nalgonda. It is a Mandal head quarter. There are two revenue divisions namely Suryapet and Kodhada in this district and there are 23 mandals under this district. Suryapet, Huzurnagar and Kodhada are the Assembly constituencies present in this district. The town of Suryapet or Suriapet in Telangana has the traces of rich history. The Chalukyan Empire, Kakatiya Dynasty, and finally Nizam Rulers ruled the place of historical tourist importance. The Pillalamarri temples with intricately carved stone pillars stand testimony to the architectural style of the Kakatiya period. The frescoes and inscriptions tell the tales of the rulers of the Kakatiya dynasty. Some temples and remains of fortified walls and buildings can be found near Undrugonda.

Suryapet was the center for Telangana Arms Struggle against Razzakars. There are many cement factories in this district. Left canal from Nagarjuna Sagar provides water for irrigation. There is a Kakatiya period Shiva Temple of historical significance located at Suryapet. There is a thousand years old Chennakesava Temple located in Pillallamarri. The temples stand testimony to the architectural style of the Kakatiya period.
