Bhongir, also known as Bhuvnagiri, is located on National Highway 163 in the newly constituted Telangana region. It is a major Municipality in Nalgonda district. It serves as an educational hub for nearby towns and cities. Bhongir Fort was built on an isolated monolithic rock by the Western Chalukya ruler Tribhuvanamalla Vikramaditya VI and was thus named after him as Tribhuvanagiri. This name gradually became Bhuvanagiri and subsequently Bhongir. At the foot of the fortified rocks 609.6 meters above the sea level stands the town of Bhongir, it has a unique egg-shaped construction with two entry points protected by huge rocks, so the fort was considered practically impregnable by invading armies.



Bhongir is famous for pottery, beetle leaves and textiles. Bhongir also has a lot to offer you if you love to learn about forts, architecture and history!
