Sattur is a town in Virudhunagar district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located 27 KM towards South from District head quarters Virudhunagar. It is a Taluk head quarter. The town is located in the bank of Vaippar river. Sattur taluk has contents of black soil around the town, suitable for crop cultivation. Sattur is the cultural centre of Virudhunagar District. Apart from the temple of famous goddess "Irukaankudi Mariamman" and its old heritage, there is a little known but historically important place. That place is a small rest house-cum-mosque, which is located on southwest boundary of the city on the highway lane.



Shiva and Vishnu temples in Sattur find historical mention. Around Sattur, Irukangudi, Sirukulam and Oodaipatti have temples of Mariamman, Arulmigu Muthalamman Temple and Vinayagar respectively. The town has very old Masjid and Eid-Ka Ground. Sattur is home of very famous snack item "Kaara Sevu" which is well renowned one. Kaara Sevu from "Shunmuga Nadar Mittai kadai" is preferred by most of the people.
