Dazhou is a prefecture-level city in the northeast corner of Sichuan province, China, bordering Shaanxi to the north and Chongqing to the east and south. Situated in the northeast of Sichuan Province, Dazhou is bounded on the north by Shanxi Province, by Chongqing in the south, Nanchong in the west and the Three Gorges Dam Project in the east. Although administrative history of Dazhou can be traced back to the establishment of the Dangqu County in 314BC, it is a young city. It was separated from Bazhong and act as a regional level city in 1999.
Dazhou is blessed with both cultural and natural attractions. There are several national and provincial cultural sites and many national and provincial protected forests and nature reserves. Xuanhan's Baili Gorges have scenery and rapids, leading to the nickname "Little Three Gorges". Mountains are this area's greatest attraction.
