Popularly known as the 'Salt City', Phalodi is a city in the Jodhpur District in the state of Rajasthan. It is surrounded by Bikaner in the north-east, Nagaur in the east and Jaisalmer in the south-west. It is situated 115 km away from Jodhpur and is known for its street bazaars and sandstone mahals. Phalodi is the second largest town and the sub-division headquarters of Jodhpur District. Founded in the 15th century, Phalodi was initially named as Phalvaridhika. Phala requested her father Shri Sidhu Kalla to rename this place as Phalodi. Shri Sidhu Kalla was the chief contributor for the building of the Phalodi Fort which is located in the eastern part of the city. This destination was originally under the rule of Rao Maldev Rathore of Jodhpur. For a short span of time Phalodi came under the direct rule of Akbar.
