Merta City is a city town and a municipality located in Nagaur district in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Merta was once a prosperous kingdom of the brave Mertia Rathore Rajputs, the descendants of Rao Duda, Ruler of Merta (1495-1525 AD), fourth son of Rao Jodha, and grandfather of fabled saint Princess Mira Bai, daughter in law of Rana Sanga of Mewar.

Merta is an anciet city which was also known as Medantak. It is here that Meerabai, the poetess and most famous devotee of Lord Krishna, was born. So, this city also holds religious significance for Hindus. Merta is famous for the Charbuja Temple located in the city centre. The Mertia clan established this temple and took it to its glory.Merta was ruled by the Rajputs, Marathas and the Mughals. So this city has seen several battles.
