Nawanshahr is a city that became a district in 1995; now it is a municipal council in Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar district in the Indian state of Punjab. It is the headquarters of Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar District. The Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar was carved out of Hoshhiarpur and Jalandhar district of Punjab on the 7th of November 1995. This region is particularly famous for its abundant heath facilities and there are lots of private clinics and nursing homes out here. This town was previously called ‘Nausar’ and eventually with the passage of time it came to be known as ‘The Nawanshahr’. Nauser Khan constructed five forts known or Havelis out here most of which remain even today, though some in ruins.
