Nainital is a popular hill station in Uttarakhand that is situated in the Kumaon foothills of the outer Himalayas. Situated at an altitude of 2,084 metres (6837 Ft) above sea level, Nainital is set in a valley containing a pear-shaped lake, approximately two miles in circumference, and is surrounded by mountains, of which the highest are Naina on the north, Deopatha on the west, and Ayarpatha on the south. It is a glittering jewel in the Himalayan necklace, blessed with an unending expanse of scenic beauty with awe-inspiring and pristine Mother Nature. Dotted with lakes, Nainital has earned the nickname of ' Lake District ' of India. The most prominent of the lakes is Naini Lake surrounded by hills. Some of the other important lakes in Nainital, beside Nainital, are Bhimtal, Sattal and Naukuchiatal .
