Atukkad Waterfalls

Located on the way to Pallivasal amidst dense vegetation, the Atukkad Waterfalls are one of the major tourist attractions in Munnar. The water is cold and is also known as a great trekking hotspot in Munnar. The romantic and secluded cascades of Atukkad are visited by several tourists throughout the year.



Muniyara Dolmens

The Neolithic dolmens of Muniyara are located in a village called Marayur and can easily be reached through a taxi or a car. The Neolithic burial chambers are a famous archeological site in Kerala and are frequented by several tourists. One can also experience some great views of the mountains covered in lush green vegetation.



Echo Point

Echo point is named after the enchanting echo phenomenon that occurs at the spot. The spot is characterized by a picturesque lake situated beside a hillock. The Echo Point is a famous destination for the young tourists and a great picnic spot for camping and photography.



Eravikulam National Park

The protected forest is located at an average elevation of 2000 meters above sea level and is home to several endemic and rare species of flora, fauna, reptiles and avifauna totaling at a whopping 750 species. The Eravikulam National Park is a home to rare and endangered species like Tiger, Leopard, Nilgiri Tahr, Gaur, Indian Muntjac and Sambar Deer, Golden Jackal, Jungle Cat, Wild dog and Dhole.



Mattupetty Dam

Constructed to conserve water to generate hydroelectricity, the Mattupetty Dam is one of the famous picnic spots in Munnar. The dam is built on the Mattupetty Lake which is home to several species of birds and animals due to the perennial supply of water through the reservoir. One can enjoy a nice stroll by the lake or can try boating.



Chithirapuram

Famous for its enormous and lush green tea plantations, Chithirapuram is characterized by old bungalows and cottages and playgrounds. Located at a short distance of 10 kilometers from Munnar, the town is visited by several tourists who visit in order to experience the old worldly charm of the place.



Marayoor

Marayoor is said to have been visited by the Pandavas during their exile and is famous for its Neolithic era rock paintings and dolmens. Marayoor is also home to the only natural sandalwood forests in Kerala. The place is also famous for its medicinal plants and herbs.



Pothamedu

Pothamedu offers an excellent view of the tea, coffee and cardamom plantations in Munnar. The rolling hills, the lush mountain and the breathtaking scenery here is ideal for trekking and long mountain walks.



Devikulam Lake

This idyllic hill station with its velvet lawns, exotic flora and fauna and the cool mountain air is a rare experience. The Sita Devi Lake with its mineral waters and picturesque surroundings is a good picnic spot. The lake is also ideal for trout fishing.



Nyayamakad waterfalls

Nyayamakad is a land of breathtaking waterfalls. The waters cascade down a hill from a height of about 1600 meters. The enchanting surroundings makes an excellent picnic spot and trekking point.



Rose Garden

The Rose Garden, spread over 2 acres of land, is an excellent stretch that is brimming with a variety of plants, including spices, crops like cardamom and vanilla, and a variety of other fruit trees. These agricultural plantations exude mesmerising and wonderful aromas, which make your stay at the gardens a rewarding experience. Located in Munnar in Kerala, on the National Highway 49, just two kilometres away from the city centre; the place is set 3,500 feet above the sea level and is a breathtaking sight to behold. The heart-warming blossoms and colourful flowers make the place a mini-heaven on earth.



Photo Point

Photo Point is located 2 kms from Munnar, on the way to the Madupetty Dam. It is a small area of land, filled with calm woods and a small, sparkling stream. Because of its picturesque serenity and calm environment, it is a very popular attraction in Munnar. The place is surrounded by various tea gardens, adding to its natural beauty. The dense tea plantations and surrouding woods, the small rivulets and rolling hills make this place an ideal spot for photography. Many people choose not to stop in this location because there is not much to see here, but once you get off the car and take a look around, the gorgeous surroundings will take you in like their own. Photo point is the ideal place to experience the charms of the indigenous vegetation of the region. Sprinkled with gently rolling hills, babbling brooks and glistening silver oaks, the beauty of this place lies in its simplicity. The turquoise sky against the emerald tea gardens is a breathtaking sight, and the lake nearby elevates the experience to another level.



Kolukkumalai Tea Estate

Located 35 km off Munnar is the Kolukkumalai Tea Estate, perched at an altitude of 8000 ft. above sea levels. This orthodox tea factory lays claim to being one of the highest in the world and is famous for its flavorsome tea. Owing to such an altitude, the quality of tea that is grown here adheres to a special flavor and freshness. These sprawling plantations have atwo-storied old tea factory as theirrightful owner. Built in the year 1930, the factory still sticks to its old yet time-tested methods of tea processing. This traditional functionalityin tea processing separates it from the other estates in the vicinity of Munnar.



Blossom Park

Spread across a lush expanse of 18 acres, Blossom Park is famous for its activities such as water cycling, boating and skating. It is covered with a wide variety of flora and has romantic little provisions of tree houses and ropeways. It is located at a mere distance of 3 km from Munnar. the Blossom Park is famous for the scenic beauty and natural aspect. The park has flower gardens and many fun activities. If you planning to go to Munnar, do not miss out on this spot.



Kundala Dam and Lake

Situated in the laps of lush jungle is Kundala Dam & Lake laying 23 km off Munnar. This arch dam is famous for its Kashmiri - Shikara boat rides and pedal boat rides. When the beautiful sun rays fall on the Kundala Lake, it creates a glittering effect to give tourist heaven like experience and help them enjoy the beauty of Kundala in absolute serenity. The picturesque Kundala lake is surrounded by green valleys and majestic landscapes, that almost every photographer would like to capture in their lenses. To get the most amazing pictures, one must reach this spot early in the morning and see how a blanket of cloud surfaces the lake, when the first few rays of sun makes the atmosphere magical.



Chinnakanal Waterfalls

Flowing from a height of 800 m, Chinnakanal Waterfalls is a sight of sheer beauty. These falls lays just 16 km away from Munnar. this cascading waterfall is a wonderful place to spend few hours. The stream is said to be originated from scenic & sacred Devikulam Hills. It is one of the best waterfalls in Munnar. There is a natural pool at bottom of the falls. The uniqueness of Chinnakanal waterfalls is the green nature around, which attracts tourists from all over the world. The surrounding green plantations gives a classic look to the waterfalls.



Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary

The Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Western Ghats and is a part of the Idukki District. This region is richly populated with a wide array of indigenous flora and fauna which makes it a trendy tourist destination. Chinnar houses a myriad variety of medicinal plants, and its animal population includes species such as grizzled giant squirrel, star tortoise, gaur, spotted deer, tufted grey langur, slender loris, crocodile, wild elephant, tiger, leopard and many birds. If animals and plants fascinate you, then there is no better way to get acquainted with them than to visit the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary. Since it is a government protected enclosure, you can experience flora and fauna in its natural habitat, uninterrupted by the hullabaloo of the city. The mixed deciduous forests found here are ideal for some rudimentary trekking as well. Rich in its diversity, this destination is a delightful learning experience for children and adults alike.



Tata Tea or KDHP Museum

Located in the Nallathanni Estate of Tata Tea around 2 km from Munnar, the KDHP Museum showcases a variety of antiquities, the most famous being the burial urn excavated from the vicinity of Periakanal Estate, dating back to 2nd century AD. The museum is known to display the story of Munnar that how it was transformed from an unoccupied piece of land to an expansive plantation town. Photographs and old machines that were used in tea processing can be seen on display. Such objects are also on display that show the endeavors of planters who dreamt of turning this wilderness into a tea plantation with very little resources and negligible equipment. The museum also has a tea tasting unit serving several flavors and varieties of tea.



Floriculture Centre

The Floriculture center is located around 2 kms outside Munnar town. The Kerala forest division maintained garden is on the slope of a hill. We visited there as our last stop on that side. I suggest you to visit spot at the end. Then you can enjoy the beauty of various natural and exotic flowers, cactus, fruits etc without any thoughts of visiting the next spot. This is an awesome place for flower photography and remember to pick up a good camera! Against the backdrop of tea plantations, you will find a well-manicured garden called Floriculture Centre. The park features a large variety of flowers and some herbal plants maintained by the Kerala Forest Development Corporation.



The Christ Church

Established nearly 110 years ago by the British tea planters, the Christ Church draws visitors from far lands. Christ Church is one of the famous churches in Munnar. The churches in Munnar rank high among the prominent churches in Kerala. An ideal destination while on a Kerala Tour, Munnar is a small hill station nestled among the Kannan Devan hills. While exploring the several tourist attractions in Kerala, you have to be at the churches in Munnar. The churches in Munnar are considered among the most visited religious places in Kerala. The beautiful stone-built Christ Church is adorned with fine-stained glass work. Munnar being home to several tea estates, there are brass plaques inside the church, honoring the memory of the tea planters.



Lakkom Water Falls

Located at a distance of just 25 km from Munnar, Lakkom Waterfalls is placed on the way to Udumalaipettai from Munnar. This tiny waterfall is a part of the Eravikulam stream in the Eravikulam National Park. This waterfall is one of the prime tributaries of River Pampar. One can also enjoy swimming here. This beautiful waterfall is enveloped by lush tea gardens and lush rolling hills, forming a lovely sight. It is one of the main tributaries of Pampar River and is ideal for swimming in privacy.



Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary

Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, also known as Thattekad Bird Sanctuary, is one of the most popular attractions in Munnar. Located in the foothills of the Western Ghats, this wildlife reserve covers an area of 25 square km. Several resident and migratory birds call this place their home that was declared a bird sanctuary in 1983. Bird watching and spotting can become an addictive joy with the help of trained guides. The Thattekkad Sanctuary is home to some of the rare species of birds such as Crimson-Throated Barbet, Bee-eater, Sunbird, Shrike, Black winged Kite, and the Night Heron. Other birds that can spotted here include The Indian Pitta, Ground Thrush, Malabar Grey Hornbill, Large-billed Leaf-warbler, Jerdon's Nightjar, Indian Cuckoo, Darters, Cormorants, Frogmouths, etc. While you are there, do savour the joy of bon-fire and fishes on grill under the open sky.



Cheeyappara Waterfalls

Cheeyappara Waterfalls is located between Adimali and Neriamangalam on Munnar to Kochi highway (NH49). Cascading down in 7 steps, Cheeyappara Waterfalls is one of the most magnificent waterfalls in Kerala. This is also a great place for trekking. It is noted for 2 acres of evergreen forests upon a huge rock. The rock is more than 500 acres in area and an ideal spot for mountaineering. A lot of tourists prefer visiting this place on their way back from Munnar as it lies on the main highway and can be spotted very easily between the lush green trees spread everywhere. It is a chain of waterfalls in the Deviyar River that originates from the Western Ghats.



Valara Falls

At a distance of 39 Kms from Munnar, the magnificent Valara Waterfalls is located between Adimali and Neriamangalam on Munnar to Kochi highway (NH49), Valara features a chain of waterfalls falling from a height of about 1000 feet and provide a magnificent view. These waterfalls are surrounded by lush, dense forests that are home to a variety of animals and birds. It is one of the top waterfalls near Munnar. The waterfall offers a breathtaking view of water falling amidst dense forest area. The forest not only adds to the beauty of waterfall but serves as an abode to the animals and birds around.
