The capital city of Meghalaya, Shillong is called the Scotland of the East because of the rolling hills and meadows which are quite reminiscent of Scotland. it is also popularly known as “Abode of Clouds”. It retains its old world colonial charm, while offering ample modern amenities. The place is a sheer delight for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts. The highest peak here, Shillong Peak, offers astounding views of the natural splendour around. Besides its majestic waterfalls and other mesmerizing natural delights, Shillong has quite a few other charms as well.
Those with an interest in culture and history would do well to spend some time at the Don Bosco Museum of Indigenous North East Culture. Elephant falls is among the most famous attraction of this region. Located on the outskirts of the city, this cascading waterbody deserves a visit. Shillong has one of the largest golf courses and also among the few natural golf courses. Wards Lake is an artificial lake commonly known as Nan-Polok. Enjoy boating or spend some quality time at this lake. You can also pay a visit to the beautiful Butterfly Museum, which has a huge collection of rarest species of butterflies. While on a trip to this city, do go for a walk in the Bara Bazar, known as Lewduh. The State Central Library started at the time of British Raj is also a major attraction. Those who want to get a glimpse of the past of this region, this library is a must-visit.
Day 01: Arrival at Guwahati - Shillong (130 Kms / 3 ½ Hrs Drive)
Meet and greet at Guwahati Airport/Station and drive to Shillong. Enroute visit Umium Lake. Check in Hotel. Overnight in Shillong.
Day 02: Shillong - Cherrapunjee - Shillong (60 Kms / 2 Hrs-One Way)
After breakfast excursion to Cherrapunjee. Later return back to Shillong. Evening visit Local markets. Overnight in Shillong.
Day 03: Shillong - Bhalukpong (350 Kms / 7 ½ Hrs)
After breakfast transfer to Bhalukpong & overnight.
Day 04: Bhalukpung - Dirang (185 Kms / 6 ½ Hrs)
After breakfast drive to Dirang. Enroute visit Tippi Orchid Centre. Check in Hotel. Evening at Leisure. Overnight at Dirang.
Day 05: Dirang - Tawang (155 Kms / 6 Hrs)
Morning drive to Tawang. Enroute witness the snowcapped Sella Pass at 14000 ft and the Jaswant Garh War Memorial. (Legend has it that Jaswant (Mahavir Chakra Awardee (Posthumous) of 4th Batallion Garhwal Rifles), fought a lone battle against the invading Chinese during the 1962 war. His spirit is still believed to protect the place). Overnight in Tawang.
Day 06: Tawang
Tawang - The beautiful land of the Monpa tribes with the “GALDEN NAMGYEL LHATSE” Monestary - one of the largest Lamaseries of Mahayana sect in Asia. The birth place of the 6th Dalai Lama, the Monastery is 400 year old and is adorned with the 18 feet high statue of Lord Buddha. ‘The Land of Dawn - lit Mountains’ at 3500 mts gives you unparallel purity of nature. Visit the monastery and the War Memorial. Evening free for shopping. Overnight in Tawang.
Day 07: Tawang - Bomdila (180 Kms / 6 Hrs)
Morning drive back to Bomdila. Evening free at leisure. Overnight in Bomdila.
Day 08: Bomdila - Kaziranga (270 Kms / 7 ½ Hrs)
After breakfast drive to Kaziranga. Check in Hotel. Overnight in Kaziranga.
Day 09: Kaziranga
Early morning go for Elephant ride@ 5AM.Return for Breakfast Jeep safari in the Central Range. Overnight at Kaziranga.
Day 10: Guwahati Airport Departure (250 Kms / 5 Hrs)
After breakfast transfer to Guwahati airport for onward journey. Tour Ends Here.
