Washim


Washim is a city and a municipal council in Washim district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Washim is the district headquarters of Washim district. Washim, is the place where Vatsa rishi performed penance and where many Gods came to bless him as a result of which it came to be known as Vatsagulma. Its mention as Vatsagulma is traced in Padma. In the Treta Yuga, the second age, this country was a part of the Dandakaranya, or Dandaka jungle, and the rishi Vatsa had his ashram hermitage at this place. Washim known earlier as Vatsagulma was the seat of power during Vakataka dynasty. Washim is also known as Basi, an Arabic name that means "the one that smiles". The most striking feature in the town in the Deo tank, flanked on one side by the temple of Venkateshwara and on another by that of Ramchandra. These all apparently date from the 18th century Washim in its religious aspect is called Watsa Gulma Kshetra, the sacred place of the gathering of Watsa and Legends about it are given in a Manuscript called Watsa Gulma Puran.



Padma Teertha Shiva Temple is a prime theertha created by Lord Vishnu. It consists of two beautiful ponds. The beautiful Shiva temple was constructed by Shri Rama Narayana Toshnival in the centre of the kund. Ram Temple is beautiful temple is estimated to be built around 250 years ago by Bhagvandas Maharaj Bairagi. Shri Dattatreya created this teertha. This well built tank has a large banyan tree close by. There is a small story related with this kund.
