Ratnagiri

Ratnagiri is an ancient city situated in the Southern part of Maharashtra and is one of the tourist cities of the state. Often regarded as the city of the kings, Ratnagiri has got a tremendous historical legacy attached with it. Initially, this city was managed by Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji and was later acquired by the Britishers in the 1800s. Ratnagiri is situated on the coastal area of Maharashtra and is surrounded by the Arabian Sea on three of its sides. Ratnagiri’s geographical location is the most crucial factor behind the natural magnificence of this place. Apart from captivating beaches, forts, delicious food and temples, this city is also highly blessed with a wide range of flora and fauna. Ratnagiri is also the birthplace of the great freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak. A prominent port town of Maharashtra, it is a big draw for tourists who come here to enjoy the sand and surf while striking base here because of its many hotels to explore the other interesting tourist destinations of the Konkan region. Located about 335 kilometers from Mumbai, the town of Ratnagiri is small and easy to navigate. Within the town’s borders is an aquarium, the main attraction of which is the skeleton of a huge whale. There are also many specimens of exotic fish and turtles.

Ratnagiri is a travelers dream come true destination with its majestic Sahyadri range and Arabian sea with virginal white beaches, cascading waterfalls, hot water springs palm groves, majestic monuments and the most famous, Alphonso mangoes. Ratnagiri has some of the magnificent forts built during the Shivaji period. Ratnagiri is also famous as the birthplace of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak who was one-third of the famous trio of "Lal Bal Pal". One of the gems in Konkan region.
