Pratapgarh Fort

Mahabaleshwar

Pratapgarh Fort is located about west of Mahabaleshwar. The fort encompasses two ancient forts; the Upper Fort - built on the top of the hill and the Lower Fort. Within the fort walls, tourists can see the Bhavani Temple, the tomb of Afzal Khan and Mahadev temple. The fort also has a maze chambers and long dark walkways, some of them lead to trap doors with a 100 meter fall. The fort is the witness of historic Battle of Pratapgarh between Shivaji and Afzal Khan.



Venna Lake

Mahabaleshwar

Venna Lake is situated around 2 km from the ST bus stand and is among the most popular tourist places in Mahabaleshwar. The lake is 2.5 km long and is encircled by trees on all sides. Tourists can enjoy activities like fishing and boating at the lake, they can even do a little horse riding.



Krishna Temple

The Krishna temple is another place of religious importance in Mahabaleshwar. The place where the temple is located is locally known as "Panchganga" which means "Five Rivers" i.e. Krishna, Koyna, Yenna, Gayatri and Savitri. The temple was built by Raja Singhandeo and later in 1635.

Mahabaleshwar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is an important Hindu pilgrimage site. It is situated in the Old Kshetra Mahabaleshwar, about 6 km north from the main city. The temple was built by the Chanda Rao More dynasty in the 16th century and is a model of the Hemadant architectural style of South India.

The rock formations here are set in a way that they resemble an elephant's head. Due to its appearance, the Elephant's Head Point has quite an apt name.



Panchganga Temple

The Panchganga Temple is constructed at the confluence of five rivers, Krishna, Veena, Savitri, Koyna and Gayatri. The temple is of major religious importance and is therefore visited by devotees throughout the year. A beautifully carved gaumukhi can be seen within the Panchganga Temple. The five rivers flow out of the gaumukhi.



Lingmala Waterfalls

Mahabaleshwar

Located at a distance of 6 kms from Mahabaleshwar, the Lingmala Waterfall can be reached via the Mahabaleshwar-Pune road. The forest bungalow of Lingmala is situated near the falls. The water here launches from a height of approximately 600 feet.
