Shoranur


Shoranur is a town and a municipality located in the Palakkad district, in the Indian state of Kerala, located on the banks of the Bharathapuzha River. It belongs to Central Kerala Division. It is located 49 KM towards west from District head quarters Palakkad. It is a Taluk head quarter. Shoranur was a part of Kavalappara Desam, a feudatory under Valluvakonathiri. The feudal lord was the Moopil Nair. With the decline of Valluvanad, it came under the Zamorin’s rule. Shoranur was placed under Madras Presidency, when the British conquered Malabar. The advent of railways increased the place’s prominence. During 1930s the place emerged as a major industrial town too.



Shoranur is about three kilometres away from Cheruthuruthy, where the famous Kerala Kalamandalam is located. Ottappalam, a temple town, is about half-an-hour drive from Shoranur. Varikkasseri Mana is one of the oldest buildings in Ottappalam and it is known for its architecture. The Mana has been a shooting location for many a Malayalam film.
