Tumkur is the district headquarters of Tumakuru district, which is known as City of Education and City of Coconuts. It is one of the industrial city located in the state of Karnataka. It is a hilly area which is intersected by river valleys. Hills of around 4,000 feet pass through the region from north to south. These hills form the watershed between the systems of the Krishna and the Kaveri. The region also encompasses the forested slopes of the Devarayanadurga hill. The district headquarters are situated at Tumkur which is spread in an area of 10,598 sq Kms. Tumkur is a beautiful hilly area which is bounded by river valleys. Jayamangala and Shimsha are the major rivers which supplies its water to this place. The headquarters of this district are at Tumkur, which is one of the busiest industrial towns in the state.



The town is a very popular tourist destination which is majorly prominent for its natural surrounding and beautiful backdrops. Devarayanadurga, which is a hill station famous for its temples and interesting rock formations, is the main attraction of the district. Siddaganga Mutt, Goravanahalli, Shri Mahalakshmi Temple, Yediyur and Shivaganga are the other prominent attractions of the district.
