Sandur is a town in Bellary District in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is the administrative seat of Sanduru taluka. Sandur was ruled by the Ghorpade royal family of the Marathas. It belongs to Gulbarga Division. It is located 47 KM towards west from District head quarters Bellary. It is a Taluk head quarter. In olden days it was called Skandapuri ie., the city of Skanda or Kumaraswamy whose temple is situated nearby Sandur. This is a border taluk to Andhra Pradesh where 25 villages of Karnataka fall on the border of the said state. The taluk is bounded on the north and west by the Hospet taluk, on the south by Kudligi taluk and on the east by the Ballari taluk.
The main attraction of Sandur is Kumarswami Temple. Sandur is also famous for Iron ore. Unauthorised Iron ore mining has spoiling the environment, beauty of sandur, Now Supreme court has banned unauthorised mining. This is the right time to visit the Sandur and enjoy the natural beauty of Sandur. Kumarswami temple is one of the oldest temple of Karnataka. The temple has Parvathy, Ganesh, and Kumarswami and Kartikeya idols. the temple was built but the Chalukyas.
