Sagara is a city located in the Indian state of Karnataka and it is also a sub divisional and a taluk headquarters. Sagara is small town and taluk headquarters in Shimoga district. Sagara is located in Western Ghats and it is surrounded by the forest regions and water bodies. Sagara gets its name from Sadashiva Sagara, a lake constructed by Keladi Ruler Sadashiva Nayaka between Keladi and Ikkeri. This lake is now called as Ganapathi Kere.
Sagara is well known destination as far as tourism is concerned. Jog Falls, a popular water fall of Karnataka is very close to this town. Other important places like Ikkeri, Keladi, Varadahalli and Varadamoola, origin of Varada river is also located near Sagar. Sagara is surrounded by places of historical places and natural attractions including the Sri Marikamba Temple and Sri Mahaganapati Temple in Sagara town.
