Maddur


Maddur is a town in Mandya district in the Indian state of Karnataka. It lies on the banks of the river Shimsha. It is 82 kilometers away from state capital Bangalore. Although it has been over shadowed by the more popular Mandya city nearby but Maddur still stands as the district headquarters town. Steeped in history, this town was formerly known as Arjunapura which was situated on the banks of the River Shimsa, the town is dotted with several temples built by the Hoysalas and the Chola dynasty.



The presiding deity of he entire village was goddess Maduramma, due to this the name Maddur has been given to the city. Vaidyanathapura, Kokkare Belluru Bird Sanctuary, Sri UgraNarasimha Swamy Temple, Sri Varadaraja Swamy Temple, Atma Lingeswara Temple at Bharatinagara.
