Afzalpur is a place located in Afzalpur Tehsil, in Gulbarga district of Karnataka state, India. It belongs to Gulbarga Division. It is located 61 KM towards west from District head quarters Gulbarga. It is a Taluk head quarter. Afzalpur belongs to the second tier administrative sub division in Gulbarga district of Karnataka and is a town as well. Afzal Khan a leading personality stands tall who extended the territory of Adil Shahi rulers to Jinji Tamil Nadu. He not only handled military service but, established towns in his name as 'Afzalpur' in Gulbarga (Kalburgi) district and in Takiya, Bijapur district and in Raichur too. According to historian A.G. Imaratwale, he traced number of monuments constructed by Afzal Khan not only in Bijapur but, also in Gulbarga and Raichur district and even in Maharastra state.



Afzalpur is famous for the Afzal Khan Mosque and for the historical spots in Udachan, Mashal, Ganagapur, Atanur and Chinamalli. Besides; Maha Shani Temple in Mashal is a sacred shrine located at a distance of 28 kilometers from Afzalpur, while Mallikarjun Temple in Chinamalli is situated at a distance of 38 kilometers. Jain Temple and Hanuman Temple in Afzalpur is also worth visiting in Afzalpur.
