Padmanabhapuram Palace is a unique fort created in wood. The architecture of the palace exhibits simplicity and elegance of the structure which is beyond easy description. The construction of the palace was initiated by Iravi Varma Kulasekhara Perumal in 1601 AD and was completed by Maharaja Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma in 1744. It was then dedicated to Lord Padmnabha (Vishnu) and christened, Padmnabha Perumal Palace.
Kanyakumari Temple is also referred to as Bhagvaty Amman Temple and is one of the 108 Shakti Peetha in Hindu mythology. The temple is one of the major Hindu temples across India and is mentioned in almost all the ancient Hindu scriptures. The Gandhi Memorial, Kanyakumari is temple built in 1956, to commemorate Mohanlal Karamchand Gandhi, better known as Gandhi. Gandhiji, the ambassador of Indian struggle for independence is considered the father of the nation. After his death, shortly after the independence his body was cremated and the ashes disposed off in the sea adjoining Kanyakumari.
