Hunchun is a county-level city in the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, far eastern Jilin province, Northeast China. It borders North Korea and Russia and covers 5,145 square kilometers. It was capital of Balhae/Bohai Kingdom between 785-793 as "Dongyang". The city's name Hunchun comes from the Manchu language meaning borderland. The city is located near the point of junction of the borders of China, Russia, and North Korea; provided with an observation platform, it is a popular tourist attraction.
Hunchun city itself is well known for its large sized skewers; the famous Chinese “chuan’r” in mandarin as the character image depicts. One major attraction here is Fang Chuan; the point where the DPRK, Russia and China meet. This sliver of land is accessible from Hun Chun. When they day is clear one can see the East Sea of Korea. Being driven on a Chinese road with North Korea on one side and Russia on the other does indeed give one the sense of being in a truly unique dest
