Kunshan is a satellite city in the greater Suzhou region. Administratively, it is a county-level city within the prefecture-level city of Suzhou. It is located in the southeastern part of Jiangsu province, adjacent to Shanghai Municipality. The total area of Kunshan is 922 kilometers. Ten towns and a national economical and technological zone are under the administration of the city government. Although Kunshan is not a well known metropolis in China, it has important cultural and historical foundations. It is the cradle of Kun Opera which has been called the 'father of all operas' in China.
