Anantnag

The city of numerous springs, Anantnag, is a beautiful district in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is the hub of commercial activities in the valley and is amongst the most developed cities of Jammu and Kashmir. At 1600m above the sea level, Anantnag is an enchanting place to visit and spend some days with nature and tranquillity. The first one goes as Lord Shiva left all his valuables enroute the caves of Amarnath. The place where he left the innumerable serpents that adorned his body came to be known as the “Anant” (never-ending) “Nag” (snake). Another tale proposes that the city got its name from the innumerable springs that it has. As springs are known as “Nag” in the local language thus the name Anantnag or the “land of never ending springs”.

The Anantnag district is not only the rice bowl of the Valley, it is equally rich in landscape. The nature has been generous in gifting the district with places of unparallel beauty. The district can rightly boast of possessing the largest number of health resorts in the whole State.
