Guilin, is a prefecture-level city in the northeast of China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It is situated on the west bank of the Li River and borders Hunan to the north. Its name means "Forest of Sweet Osmanthus", owing to the large number of fragrant sweet osmanthus trees located in the city. The city has long been renowned for its scenery of karst topography and is one of China's most popular tourist destinations. Guilin is considered to be the pearl of China's thriving tourist industry on account of the natural beauty and historic treasures. Covering an area of about 27,800 square kilometers, the city is rather compact when compared with other major travel destinations in the country. The stunning landscape in which the city is situated has a kind of magic that is all its own.
Embraced by lofty hills with the winding Li River flowing through, Guilin boasts magnificent natural beauty and many precious cultural relics, most famously the Elephant Trunk Hill, Reed Flute Cave, Seven-Star Park, Folded Brocade Hill. There are countless imaginatively named hills to climb, caves to explore, and rivers and lakes to cruise. The Longsheng rice terraces are a magnificent demonstration of man working in harmony with the landscape. Yangshuo caters for the Western tourist well.

The airport is Guilin Liangjiang International Airport.
Guilin is a relatively small city, and many of the shopping places are located along Zhongshan Road, a major road, and in the city center of Guilin. Besides some big department stores, there are also some interesting small markets and pedestrian streets. Guilin's local products and handicrafts include China sea pearls, Chinese landscape paintings, fermented bean curd, medicinal materials, paper umbrellas and artistic pottery and porcelain.
