Koh Samui is not only one of Thailand’s top travel destinations, the island is also well known for water sports, adventure activities, shopping and fine food. Koh Samui is part of a much larger archipelago that includes the popular islands of Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, as well as the spectacularly beautiful Angthong Marine Park, all of which can be easily reached by boat. With a wide range of options for relaxation, entertainment and adventure, travel on Koh Samui offers something for everybody. Each beach has its own special atmosphere, Chaweng being the busiest but also one of the most beautiful, while smaller beaches like Big Buddha and Choeng Mon beach offer a more secluded atmosphere. With large numbers of people from around the world now visiting and living on the island, there’s a distinctly cosmopolitan feel to many of the main towns and tourist areas. Koh Samui offers visitors an impressive choice of fine beach locations, each with their own special atmosphere and different options for activities and entertainment. Sealed roads make travelling to the different beaches and attractions easy and enjoyable.
There’s quite a bit more to Samui than sun, sea and sand. Admittedly the beach life is the best part of Samui and the focus of any Samui guide. Each beach area of the island has their own character and attractions; however, there is also the lush, hilly inland and several fantastic islands nearby. Samui also has an excellent selection of entertainment options to keep you amused. Chaweng and Lamai are the two main beaches of the island, but several quieter beaches line the northern coast
The best time to visit October to March.
By Air
The island has its own airport called the Samui Airport, which is owned by Bangkok Airways. This means that the owner airline is the major operator of flights to and from the island of Koh Samui.
Shopping opportunities abound on Koh Samui, with a wide range of stalls and shops dotted around the island’s main beach areas. To find the most choice, visitors are inevitably drawn to Chaweng; Koh Samui’s main tourist hub. The entire length of the main beach road is lined with everything from local stalls selling souvenirs or electronics all the way up to designer retailers who stock internationally-renowned brands of clothing and goods.
