Tezpur

Tezpur is the city of eternal love lying along the mighty river Brahmaputra. Tezpur has great historical significance in Assam. The name Tezpur itself says City of Blood also known as Sonitpur. According to mythology, when Lord Krishna fought for his grandson Aniruddha with the army of Banasur there was bloodshed all around the place and the whole place was filled with blood and so it was named Tezpur and is known by the name till this date. It is the district headquarters of all the administrative offices which falls under Sonitpur district which was previously known as the Darrang district during the British rule in India. There are many historical places in Tezpur which are of great significance and are also great tourist spot. Some of the places are Da Parbatia where one can see the architecture of ancient Assam dating back to 4th century of the prehistoric era. Also among the many more such tourist spots one can also find its root with the history in Bamuni hills, Hazara Pukhuri which was made by King Harjara of the Hajara dynasty.
