Bozhou is a prefecture-level city in northwestern Anhui, China. It borders Huaibei to the northeast, Bengbu to the southeast, Huainan to the south, Fuyang to the southwest, and Henan to the north. Bozhou is a famous historical and cultural city of Anhui. Over three thousand years ago, the first emperor of the Shang Dynasty (16th - 11th century BC) appointed it as the capital city of Anhui. It was once called Qiao Shire though changed back to Bozhou in the Tang Dynasty (618-907), a prefecture which was listed among the ten most prosperous prefectures at that time. It is situated in the south end of the Huanghuai (Yellow River and Huaihe River) Plain. The terrain is flat, and on the whole, gently slopes from the northwest to the southeast though there are few small hills in its eastern region.
The Underground Tunnel is in the old city zone. It was built by the General Cao Cao during the Three Kingdoms Period (220-280), reputed as the underground Great Wall, the brick, clay and wood tunnels stretch around the Dayushou. the Great Guandi Temple built especially for opera performing in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The wooden stage is famous for the exquisite engraved and colored patterns.
