The city is a municipality and also the mandal headquarters of Proddatur mandal. Proddatur is on the banks of river Penna.Its neighbouring towns include Jammalamadugu, Mydukuru, Yerraguntla and Allagadda. Jammalamadugu and Mydukur are just 20 km away from Proddatur. Frequent buses are available to Mydukur and Jammalamadugu. Yerraguntla is just 12 km away from Prodatur.
