Bobbili

Bobbili is a famous town of Andhra Pradesh. It is well connected to other major cities of the country by rail and road so it is quite easy to reach there. Its original name was ‘Pedda-puli’ which means ‘the big tiger’. It was gifted to the maharaj of Venkatgiri by the Navab of Srikakulam, Sher Muhammad Khan. The town of Bobbili is mainly famous in the history of state of Andhra Pradesh due to the historical battle which happened here in 1757. The kings of VIzinagram won the battle with the help of French. There are many places of tourist interest in Bobbili. All over the town there are many magnificent structures built by the royal family of that era which have now turned into heritage sites. Venugopal Swamy temple and the Stupam of bobbli are some other historical places which tourists come here to see. One can almost feel the bravery of the great battle in the town.

Many places which belonged to the Royal family of Bobbili have now become tourist destinations. The bobbili fort has some places which are evident of the splendor of the bygone era. Durbar Mahal or the meeting hall is a magnificent place with two stone elephants on the stairway leading to it. The Pooja mahal and Bobbli guest house are some other prominent parts of the historic fort. Th ePrang Mahal opposite to Bobbili fort is a famous heritage site and attracts a lot of tourists.
